What a Claude animation skill is

A skill is a folder of instructions, and often code, that Claude Code or Codex loads when a task matches. An animation skill teaches the agent one way to move things on screen: a visual style, a timing system or a whole video pipeline.

  • Style skills

A fixed look, such as watercolor characters, Vox-style collage or hand-drawn whiteboard.

  • Principle skills

Timing, easing and choreography rules your agent applies to any design.

  • Pipeline skills

Script to storyboard to rendered video, often on Remotion, HyperFrames or Manim.

34 of the 41 skills are MIT, 6 are Apache-2.0 and 1 is CC BY 4.0 (attribution required). Some call paid outside services, such as image, video or voice APIs; the example page for each skill says so.

Before you install one

  1. 01Check the license, and whether sample art or fonts are excluded.
  2. 02Check the stack it needs: Remotion, Manim, Motion Canvas or HTML.
  3. 03Check for paid APIs it calls for images, video or voice.
  4. 04Watch a rendered example, not just the README.

Use any of them from one install

Claude Motion lists every catalogued skill next to our own styles. Your agent reads your document, picks the skill that fits, downloads only that pinned version, checks its checksum and follows its look, while the original names and notices stay in place.

  • Matched to your content

The agent explains why it chose a skill before it builds.

  • One timeline

Every result opens on the HyperFrames timeline for edits.

  • Finished output

Add voiceover and music, render an MP4 or share a link.

Browsing styles works for any connected account. Creating, rendering, voiceover and sharing need a Creator ($19.9/mo) or Studio plan. You can always install a skill straight from GitHub instead, for free.

Your questions, answered

Are these official Anthropic or Claude skills?

No. Each one is an open-source project by the GitHub author listed on its example page. Claude Motion is also independent and has no relationship with Anthropic.

Can I use a skill without Claude Motion?

Yes. Install it from its GitHub repo into your Claude Code or Codex skills folder and follow its README. It stays free under its own license.

Which animation skill should I start with?

For characters, ClaudeAnimationBase. For product launches and explainers, motion-graphics-skills or motion-video-skill. For timing rules you can add to anything, LottieFiles motion-design-skill. Or let Claude Motion pick one for your content.

Do they all need Remotion?

No. Some use Remotion, some Manim, Motion Canvas or plain HTML, and several are written for HyperFrames. Remotion has its own license terms, which the example page notes.

Can I add my own skill to the list?

We add open-source skills with a clear license and a working example. Send us the repo link from the contact page.
